This is the toilet bowl of the ACC. If you bet or even watch this game, you're crazy if you're not a GT or Louisville fan. This game is irrelevant, but I'll give a score and pick.
Miami has to beat the Seminoles and the Panthers, and they win the ACC regular season and snag first place in Greensboro, rightfully so. This Hurricanes team is the best in the ACC. I think Miami wins comfortably, but I would not take a side on the spread.
If they want to punch their ticket to the big dance, Syracuse must win the ACC Tournament in Greensboro. These regular season games mean less, so they can play without pressure. Syracuse only needs to win one more game to guarantee a bye in Greensboro, and Pittsburgh is fighting for the regular season ACC title. All the pressure is on the Panthers, and I'm not pumped about backing a Pitt side with expectations around them.
North Carolina looked AWFUL against Notre Dame on Wednesday and still pulled out a win (which is all that matters). Then Vegas comes out saying the Tar Heels are a 4.5-point FAVORITE??? Vegas knows. This is the biggest trap line of the season where every Joe Shmoe will hammer Virginia because they're the 6th-ranked team in the country, and UNC is a bubble team. Vegas knows.
Wake Forest may have killed their NCAA Tournament hopes by losing at NC State on Wednesday. They will likely have to win out the rest of the season and make a run to Saturday at the ACC Tournament. Notre Dame is begging to win a game. They continue to keep games close between Virginia, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech. This team is so due to upset someone, and a deflated Wake Forest team might be their best chance. I think Wake wins on a last-second Appleby shot, but it will be interesting to see how the Demon Deacons react.
Virginia Tech might be the best 6-11 ACC team in history. This team is much better than their record says they are. The issue with the Hokies is they continue to play to their competition. If they play Boston College, they sleepwalk and struggle, but if the Hokies play Virginia or Duke, they are coming firing. Duke is coming off a win against Louisville earlier this week; this is a game Duke needs to improve their tournament resume. Currently, most bracketologists have the Blue Devils as a 7-seed. If Duke can make a run in Greensboro and close out the regular season, they could play their way into a 5-seed or a 4-seed. Duke needs to handle their business today, and I believe they will. The spread is tricky. I think it falls right around the six or seven number. Also, watch out for a Hunter Cattoor 3-point barrage; he loves having career games against the Blue Devils. Kyle Filipowski dominated the Hokies in Cassel Coliseum in January, I expect the same result today. He's also going to play with a chip on his shoulder after this absurd missed call last game.
