ACC SATURDAY HOOPS PICKS 3/4

The record is not great since we started putting the picks out. We are currently 7-10 on picks and down -2.9 units. Not what we want, but let’s go out and have an insane Saturday to close out the regular season and roll into the ACC Tournament.

Before we get into these games, if you’re a normal person that’s insanely confused by the ACC Tournament seeding, follow this tweet threat by Patrick Stevens. Shoutout to him for helping all of us dummies out.

Louisville @ Virginia -18.5 O/U 127.5 (2:00 pm ET ESPN2)

Usually, you would say a team with nothing to play for is playing for pride, but Louisville isn’t even playing for that anymore. This will cap off the worst season in Louisville basketball history. There’s not much to say about this game besides the spread is too high. Virginia does not blow out teams. They barely beat this Louisville team a couple of weeks ago, and they have only won two games in the ACC this season by double digits. I will take Louisville with the points, but the Cavaliers will win comfortably.

Score Prediction: Louisville 53 Virginia 69

Georgia Tech @ Boston College -3.5 O/U 137.5 (2:30 pm ET ESPNU)

This is, weirdly, an interesting game. Boston College has a TON to play for. If Boston College wins and Wake Forest loses against Syracuse, Boston College receives a bye in the ACC Tournament. Georgia Tech comes into this one with no pressure; Josh Pastner is a great friend of the pod; we are riding with the Yellow Jackets here. I refuse to back a Boston College team with expectations around them.

Score Prediction: Georgia Tech 69 Boston College 67

Florida State @ Virginia Tech -9.5 O/U 149.5 (4:00 pm ET ESPN2)

Imagine someone telling you before the season that Virginia Tech and Florida State would play on Tuesday at the ACC Tournament. Nightmare season for the Seminoles and a subpar season for the Hokies. This game is just sad. Both teams have been very disappointing, and this game fits perfectly they’re playing each other. I would not back either side in this game, but if I had to make a pick, I’d take the Seminoles +9.5.

Florida State 71 Virginia Tech 76

Wake Forest @ Syracuse -1 O/U 157.5 (5:00 pm ET ESPN3)

Before Tuesday night, I would’ve taken Wake in this game blindly. Both of these teams have been playing horribly. Wake losing to Boston College is inexcusable. Josh Graham (WSJS The Drive) said it perfectly on his show that the Demon Deacons are “checked out.” Syracuse is also checked out. They’re coming off a humiliating 20-point loss to Georgia Tech. Both teams are regressing at the worst possible times, but I think pure talent wins out in this game, and I’ll ride with the Demon Deacons. Expect Daivien Williamson to have a big game against the Orange zone.

Score Prediction: Wake Forest 82 Syracuse 79

Pittsburgh @ Miami -7.5 O/U 154.5 (6:00 pm ET ACC Network)

As crazy as it is to say, this is the biggest game in the ACC tomorrow. The winner takes the regular season title and sets themselves up for an easier title run. These teams are supposed to be neck and neck in this conference, but Vegas has the Hurricanes favored by 7.5. At some point, you have to believe Pitt will bounce back; it is not happening against the Hurricanes. Miami is the best team in the ACC and will prove they are on Saturday. I’m backing the Canes -7.5.

Score Prediction: Miami 83 Pittsburgh 72

Notre Dame @ Clemson -9.5 O/U 143.5 (8:00 pm ET ACC Network)

Mike Brey is awesome. He is a phenomenal coach and seems like a great guy. With that being said, his team stinks; they have been getting so close to upsetting a team in recent weeks, and it finally happened against Pittsburgh. Notre Dame will not care in the slightest against Clemson, and I expect Clemson to care of business in this one. They need this game, and coming off a tough loss against Virginia, they’ll be ready for the Fighting Irish. 9.5 is a lot of points, I would wait to live bet this one, but I still lean Clemson -9.5.

Score Prediction: Clemson 79 Notre Dame 67

Duke @ North Carolina -3.5 O/U 142.5 (6:30 pm ET ESPN)

We typically do an entire podcast for this game, but we will be doing a big ACC Tournament pod next week, so I thought I’d do a blog. Go read it here.
