BYU vs Baylor Preview and Picks

21. BYU -3 vs. 9. Baylor (O/U 53.5)

Let's get this out of the way now; having College Gameday come to your campus is cool but also overrated at the same time. Many people believe the Gameday crew should be in Provo, but it does not take away from how massive this matchup is. There are real playoff implications for Saturday's game; whoever loses will most likely lose any hope of making the College Football Playoff.

Last year's matchup between the two schools in Waco showed that Baylor was flat out in a different class than the Cougars. Baylor stopped BYU's number one option in Tyler Allgier, who is now in the NFL and the Bears ran for over 300 yards. BYU's defense last year was straight-up BBQ chicken. This year the Cougars are healthy and seem much more cohesive on the defensive side of the ball compared to last season.

I don't care what anybody says; it's a stone-cold fact that BYU plays better during night games and comes out slow for daytime kickoffs.

BYU came out firing in the first half of nighttime games last season, and the same will continue this season. We saw the Cougars put 38 on USF in just the first half alone. This crowd at Lavell Edwards on Saturday night will be one of the loudest we will see from any team in college football all season. Expect fireworks from the beginning.

The line opened at BYU -2.5 and has gotten up to -3.5, but now it is at -3. I believed the line would have been a pick 'em or even Baylor -2 if we are being honest. Vegas putting the Cougs at -3 tells me everything I need to know. A home opener and a night game on ESPN is the perfect recipe for a BYU cover.

Pick: BYU -3

LaVell Edwards Stadium

The weather for the game will be perfect, with the temperature around 76 degrees and wind around 5 mph. This matchup will have beautiful weather and high-powered offenses, which result in the over being a lock. This game's total is 53.5, which seems way too low and scares me a tad. Currently Action Network has 99% of the money on the over which screams take the under. I love the over and will go with my brain.

Pick: Over 53.5

Also, imagine not riding with Big Cat's Queen Elizabeth in memoriam Game of the Year. You have to ride with Big Cat's GOTY's, no questions asked.

Other Props and Picks

Some other props are not available on all books, but these are the odds I was able to find on Action Network.

Jaren Hall over 1.5 TDs -117
Lopini Kotoa over 0.5 receiving yards +136

Lean: Longest TD over 54.5 yards -120 (kind of crapshoot pick, but there will be at least one 50+ yard TD)
