Everybody and their mothers are on the Cougs this week, and that scares the hell outta me. Here is a short list of the people picking BYU to cover and win.
As someone who is obviously superstitious and worries about jinxes (for better or worse), this is a horrible sign. Here I listed why I am worried about today's game at Autzen.
This is something that worries me. BYU is coming off a massive 2OT win against the 9th-ranked team in the country. They were able to win that game without their top two receivers, which was an encouraging sign.
For those that do not know, the day game theory is when BYU has a daytime kickoff, they always come out sluggish compared to a nighttime kickoff. Last season their daytime kickoffs included their first loss at home to Boise State, loss at Baylor, barely beating a depleted Washington State team, and the exception was a 59-14 win on Senior Day against Idaho State. This will be the first time in this young season the Cougs will be kicking off in the daytime.
This is what concerns me the most. Before the line came out, I assumed it would be roughly around a pick 'em or even BYU -1, especially after beating Baylor. Clearly, Vegas is not putting much stake into the spanking Georgia put on Oregon. I think this is a spot where any sucker thinks, "well Oregon lost by a zillion to Georgia and BYU just beat a top 10 team in the country. BYU is the easy pick as a dawg". It seems like Vegas is begging people to take BYU and the points. And I will be falling for that trap despite all my concerns.
I will be playing BYU +3.5 and BYU ML solely as a loyalty pick. If I were not a BYU fan, I would take Oregon in this one. I will also be taking over 58 points in this one. I know I took it last week, but that was solely out of respect to Big Cat. This BYU offensive line is one of the best in the country, and the Oregon defensive line has struggled to get pressure on the quarterback this season, so Jaren Hall should have plenty of time to throw. It appears Puka Nacua could potentially play today as well. My favorite play today is Jaren Hall over 1.5 passing TDs. Here are some other picks I like today.
