You may be shocked to realize that I played tennis in both high school and college. Now, in high school I played second doubles with my brother and in college I did not play in every match, but I have the varisty letter and college gear to prove it. I was in the trenches every tuesday/thursday weekend for the better part of my young adult life. I understand the vitriol and intensity that comes with playing tennis at the TOP level. That is why I am so enamored with the enigma that is Danielle Collins.

Let's add a little context. Danielle Collins is a 31 year old tennis player from the states. She defeated Australian native Destanee Aiava in 3 sets. What happened next may have started a generational run that may make Collins the biggest villian in sports

Naturally, the Australian Open crowd starting booing when their hometown hero lost to Danielle. Most tennis players would ignore the boos and go on with their lives. Not Danielle Collins. She proceeds to TAUNT the crowd, blowing kisses, asking the crowd "how 'bout that?" as the boos reign down. Truly an unbelievable moment that enamors me as someone who could not care less about the Australian Open.

This isn't all though. In her post-match (?) interview, the boos CONTINUED to reign down as she brags about the paycheck she collected. She proceeds to tell the displeased crowd how her and her girlfriends LOVE to take 5-star vacations and implied that is how she will be using her check from the match. Not a bad way to spend $290,000 AU, or $180,159 USD. When the interviewer wishes her luck in her next match, the crowd boos EVEN MORE in which Danielle thanks the crowd once more and hits them with a condescending, "love ya!".

As someone that love to stir the crowd up with my Ohio State takes, I can only respect the show that Danielle is putting on for the crowd. Playing the villian is not made for everyone. You have to have some mental toughness to play the villian, and Danielle Collins has solidified herself as the #1 villian in tennis.
